Post-Operative Care Info
Everything you should know before and after your pets surgery
Dogs and cats 6 years old or older require pre-operative bloodwork.
Pets 10 years old or older require pre-operative bloodwork and x-rays.
The Evening Before Your Pet’s Surgery:

Pets SHOULD NOT EAT after midnight the night before surgery or morning day of surgery.
(If they do we can not preform the surgery and we would have to reschedule)

Please arrive promptly between 8 and 9 AM in West Palm Beach and 8:30 AM in Jupiter for surgery check in.
What to Do Upon Arrival:

Please be patient. We do check ins on FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS

All procedures REQUIRE PROOF of current rabies vaccination, or vaccine WILL BE administered the day of surgery.

All canines 7 months of age or older ARE REQUIRED TO DO A HEARTWORM TEST which cost an additional $20. (Proof of negative heart worm test and current preventative from the past 12 months is accepted, but must be provided at the time of surgery check in).

All felines of any age are required to do a feline triple test which cost an additional $24 (This tests the blood for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), Feline Leukemia virus (FeLV), and Feline heart worms).

Patients approaching 5 years of age or older are required to do pre-anesthetic blood work which cost an additional $135.00 in advance or $160.00 the day of surgery.
Please remember that these requirements are to ensure the health and safety of your pet prior to anesthesia.
Spays and Neuters standard policies:
Females:
-
Any female (canine or feline) that presents in heat while under anesthesia, or possibly pregnant will incur AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF $50 - $100
(Heat cycles can last up to 6-8 weeks before and/or after their last heat cycle).
Males:
-
Any male (canine or feline) whose testicles have not descended into the scrotum (cryptorchidism) ARE CHARGED ADDITIONAL (PER TESTICLE) FOR NEUTERING.
-INGUINALLY retained testicles are $250.00 - $350.00 additional charge (per testicle depending on the weight of the dog).
-ABDOMINALLY retained testicles are 2 times the amount of the neuter price
Since we are a Spay/Neuter facility we require Spay/Neuters to be done with ANY surgery.
To decline there will be an additional fee
Medications and E-Collars:

PROCEDURE PRICING DOES NOT INCLUDE THE COST OF MEDICATION OR E-COLLAR GOING HOME .

E-collars are recommended to prevent trauma to the surgical incision and cost is $15,

Medication prices vary depending on each patient needs (Medication may be up to $75).

Collar sizes and medications are determined by the surgical veterinarian at the time of surgery.
Pick Up Time and Fees:

Please plan to pick up your pet at 5 pm. If your pet is ready before 5 pm we will call you.

OWNERS NOT PRESENTING TO PICK UP THEIR ANIMAL BY 5:30 pm WILL BE CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL $50 LATE FEE.

WE ARE NOT A 24 HOUR CLINIC AND DO NOT HAVE OVERNIGHT STAFF! ABSOLUTELY NO PATIENTS ARE PERMITTED TO STAY OVERNIGHT AFTER SURGERY. If a pet is not picked up, Paws 2 Help will not assume liability and charge a $100 boarding overnight fee.

If your pet defecates pre-operatively or intra-operatively an additional $25 cleaning fee will be charged. (You can walk your pet prior to admitting him/her to the surgical technician)

A surgical technician will go over all the at home care requirements with you at pick up and written discharge instructions will be given to you at that time.

Dog Owners

Please walk your dog before surgery drop off.

No choke chains or retractable leashes.

Please take your leash when a surgery technician takes your pet back to surgery.

Cat Owners
Feral Cats – Click HERE.

Please do not bring your cat in open arms.

One cat per carrier.

We ask that you transfer your cat from your carrier to a Paws 2 Help recovery cage upon admission into the hospital.

At surgery pick up we will put you in a room to again transfer your pet from the Paws 2 Help recovery cage back to your carrier.
What to Do at Pick Up
-
We will call you when your pet is done with surgery. Please plan to pick up between 5 pm and 5:30 pm. (If you do not receive a call just come at this time). We close at 5:30 pm and overnight stays are not permitted.

You will be provided with an itemized receipt at check out and post-operative discharge instructions
