BUILDING THE FIVE DOLLAR MILE

Imagine a string of five dollar bills a mile long. Sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it? Imagine assembling that string of bills, one bill at a time. Now imagine doing that FOUR TIMES in a single day.

WE’RE GOING TO DO IT!

American currency is six inches long. A mile is 5280 feet long. That means we’ll need to assemble 10560 five dollar bills for each mile. And where are we going to get all those bills? Well, YOU are going to help us get them. And here’s how we’re going to do it:

On April 27th we’re having a “pet walk”. Actually we’re having THREE pet walks at locations throughout the county. You’ll register for the walk of your choice and solicit five dollar “sponsorships” from your family and friends. When you run out of family and friends you’ll solicit sponsorships from strangers on the street and their families and friends. We’ll even show you how to set up a web page so you can solicit sponsorships long distance and from total strangers on the internet. Don’t worry, it’ll be fun. After you’ve said “please give me five dollars so I can help the animals” a few times and see how willing people really are to help you may even begin to enjoy it.

Every now and then as your list of sponsors grows and the bills accumulate you’ll convert them to a check or money order so you’re not forced to hide large sums of cash under your mattress, and you’ll send them in or drop them off at one of the centers Right before the walk you’ll also convert the remaining bills to a check or money order so we don’t have large sums of cash at the walk sites. We’ll be building the actual miles out of facsimile bills, partly because I’d hate to have to explain to my boss that someone’s dog ate some of the real ones.

Then, the day of the walks you’ll go to your site of choice with your pet in tow, and we’ll give you stylish t-shirts for you and your pet. There will be fun and refreshments, drawings and contests, and plenty of other animal lovers. We’ll walk a mile. And we’ll see how far we were each willing to go to help the animals one six inch bill at a time.

There will be a grand prize for the person getting the largest number of sponsors. There will be prizes and drawings for walkers at various levels of sponsorships. And there will be a great time for everyone.

DON’T WANT TO WALK?

No problem. Register and go get your sponsors anyway. You KNOW you’ll really want the cool shirts for you and your pet. And you know you really want to help resolve the problem of homeless animals and pet overpopulation. But we won’t make you walk. Come anyway and we’ll measure off the distance of the bills you collected so you can take a stand for the animals in your place along the mile.

REGISTRATION STARTS SOON!

So check back often for updates and sponsor forms. You’ll want to register early to make sure we order the right size t-shirts, and so you can get the most sponsors! Once you’ve registered you’ll still want to check back often for updates and prize information. You won’t want to get caught short or shirtless, so let’s get out there and “get ‘er done”! We’ll build those miles six inches at a time.
